Hillel Seders

In celebration of Passover, Hillel is hosting eight different seders on the first night (Friday, April 6)! There's even one more on the second night, just for good measure. Students can sign up here!

We'd also love to welcome community members, alumni, and other members of the extended Brown and RISD families to join us. Please fill out this form if you'd like to join us!

First Night Options: Friday, April 6 at 7:45 pm

Community Seder
Join Marshall Einhorn (our Executive Director) as we make our way through the Haggadah and engage in discussions of different aspects of the experience. This seder will be a great place for both novice Seder attendees and those of us who are missing our family’s customs.

Traditional Seder - Seder on the Floor
This old-school seder, led by Rabbi Mordechai Rackover, will focus on ancient customs and the exploratory nature of the original seder. The seder will be 'halakhic,' providing opportunity for fulfillment of the mitzvot, the commandments of the evening. Imagine a symposium with good food and some wine.

Social Justice Seder - Focus on Modern Slavery
On this holiday about our collective escape from slavery, how are we to reconcile our lives with slavery happening today? What are ways that we can combat it? We will explore what we can do to fight slavery today in the framework of the Seder as well as learn techniques for social activism in general.

Progressive Seder
Reclaim the leading role of women in the Exodus story, and celebrate the continuing role of women and LGBT people in Judaism. People of all genders are invited!

Musical Seder
For those looking to add a little a capella to their Passover this year, this Seder will bring new and old tunes into the experience. Feel free to bring a favorite song from your family's seder.

AEPi Seder
This peer-led Seder is open to all and specifically oriented to the AEPi community and their friends.

Brown Band Seder
This will be a seder hosted by and for members of the Brown Band.

Frisbee Seder
An annual tradition, the Frisbee Seder is a raucous affair with great student-led energy.

Second Night: Saturday April 7 at 7:45 pm

Creative Seder
Join Alisa Kotler-Berkowitz (our Director of Engagement) and her family for a creative take on the Seder experience, with lots of singing and discussion. At this multi-generational Seder, everyone participates!
